"Win or lose I will do my best"

Softball

The Platteville Girls Softball Program is run similar to the Baseball Program but the main difference is that the girls have home and away games against other neighboring towns.  This league is set up with 3 age levels of players, Mighty Might’s, Juniors and Seniors.

Mighty Might’s are 4th and 5th grade girls. Every player bats per inning and the coach pitches to them.  3 innings are played with no score kept.   The focus of the Mighty Might league is to introduce players to fundamentals and rules of the game as well as the mechanics of fielding, throwing, batting and base running.

Juniors are 6th and 7th grade girls and play for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.  This age level has the players begin to pitch and catch.  The level of play is moved up to getting the players to be more independent on the field as coaches remain in the dugout area of the field during games.  Players begin to learn how to take signals from the coaches for stealing bases and bunting.

Seniors are 8th and 9th grade girls and play a regular 5 inning game or about 1 hour and 30 minutes.  Depending on the team being played, the local rules, and time constraints (if any) a full five innings are played and if there is a tie extra innings are played.  Pitchers and catchers have progressed to the point of being able to call pitches.  Batters are encouraged to play “small ball” and proficiently bunt and advance runners to the next base and scoring position.  Defensive plays are called out during situations where a runner may be in a position to advance to the next base.

The highest level of Sportsmanship is expected of players, coaches and fans of the Platteville Youth Softball Program.  Great leadership and cooperation by all those involved will elevate our youth to the highest level of achievement and will exceed any wins, losses or championships accounted for by any team or individual.
